Hydrotherapy Bath & Condition:
First your pet's coat and skin will be typed, and the proper shampoo
and conditioner will be chosen. They will receive a warm hydro-therapy
massaging bath (and a wet de-shedding - or skin - treatment if ordered)
using the chosen products, are toweled off and fluff dried by hand.
Using brushes while drying the hair leaves the coat fluffy &
soft, it also helps remove the shedding hair. In our opinion, this
is the ONLY way to dry a pooch. Its safer, healthier, helps remove
dead hair & massages the skin.
Nails: The nails will be clipped (&/or filed)
to bring them to the correct length. A dogs nails should not curl
under, click on the floor or cause the toes to splay (spread out).
If your pet's nails have become over-grown, they will have to be
gradually taken down over a period of time. When a dog's nails are
allowed to grow too long the quick (a small blood vessel that runs
through the living part of the nail) grows longer, and we will be
unable to clip off the desired amount without cutting this vessel
causing bleeding. If the nail is clipped back slowly, the quick
will recede and allow for safe cutting.
Ears: The ears will be cleaned
with a PH balanced ear-cleanser, and the excess hair will be removed
from the canal (for long haired breeds - the 'hair-do' dogs; the
short coated breeds rarely need this service). If any irritations
or other concerns are found within the ear, you will be notified.
Pad & Paw Care: The paws
are soaked during the bath, & scrubbed with a natural bristle
brush to help clean and exfoliate the pads. The 'crazy toe hair'
that grows between doggie toes will be trimmed down or shaved to
avoid painful matts, help improve traction and lessen the amount
of debris tracked into the house. If the pads are dry and cracked,
a healing & emollient 'paw cream' will be massaged into the
pads. Your dog is only has one set of 'shoes', we need to make sure
we keep them in tip-top condition!
Tooth-Brushing & Oral Hygiene:
If a dental hygiene is requested, your companion will her their
teeth cleaned with one (or a combination of the following): oral
hygiene pads, a toothbrush &/or a finger brush. Depending on
the temperament and mouth size of the pet, the tool(s) that will
best suit the job will be chosen. A pet dental paste will be used,
followed by an oral hygiene spray & finished with a breath freshing
gel.
Hygienic Shave: The hair around
the genitalia & anus will be carefully shaved to prevent urine
and feces from adhering to the coat causing bacteria growth, staining,
irritation & fecal impaction caused by an externally blocked
anus. During their bath the anal glands will be expressed if necessary.
Undercoat/Loose Hair Removal:
Your dog will be bathed in the chosen shampoo and washed using a
hydrotherapy bathing system & a combination of different bathing
brushes. A high-quality conditioner will be allowed to soak into
the coat for several minutes. After all product is rinsed from the
coat, they will be towel dried and dried using hand held driers
and brushes. When the coat is dry it will be brushed using a special
tool to help release the shedding hair. Keeping shedding at bay
requires a regular grooming schedule and maintenance brushing at
home. We will help you learn the correct way to brush your pet for
maximum effectiveness.
Brush-Out: Your pet's coat will
be brushed free of knots and tangles using the appropriate combs
and brushes for their coat type. Heavy/thick coated breeds will
be thinned out and have their undercoat removed. All dogs will be
finished with a leave-in conditioning mist.
Hair-cut/Style: Your pet's coat
will be clipped and styled according to specification. I can help
you chose a clip that will suit your dog's breed, coat-type and
lifestyle. Reference and photo material is available in the waiting
room to help determine the best style for you and your companion.
Allergy & Medicated Baths:
We use a special shampoo (we also carry it for sale to use at home)
that helps relieve irriated skin, allows it to heal and helps prevent
further irritation. Then we massage a healing conditioner into the
skin before we rinse. A topical spray will be misted over the coat
to help protect the skin and coat from further irritation while
providing itch relief. There is also a gel that can be directly
applied to badly affected areas. This stuff is absolutely amazing.
I have achieved fabulous results using this line of product. If
your companion is suffering from skin and allergy problems, give
this treatment a try.
All-Natural Whitening/Brightening Shampoo:
This aromatherapeutic gentle shampoo is chemical-free and all-natural.
It brightens and moisturizes the coat while lightening ugly staining
without the use of bleach. For removing stubborn coat stains and
home, you can purchase a bottle of tearless facial scrub to take
with you. Its wonderful for use on white-faced dogs who stuffer
from tear staining.
"Paw"dicure & Polish:
The excess pad hair is trimmed and the hair around the nails are
shaved back. The foot is moisturized and a polish is applied. We
have some great colors to choose from, just like a day a the spa.
