OUR PHILOSOPHY

Proper grooming is essential to the overall good mental & physical health of your pet. Ideally, it is best for them to be comfortable with (and hopefully learn to enjoy) grooming. It is even more important when caring for the long or heavily coated breeds, as they will require more grooming than most short or smooth coated breeds. With that being said, we need to recognize that all pets require grooming. It is a part of a healthy routine. Whether it be a nail clipping, hair-cut, ear cleaning, tooth-brushing or a bath, it is important that they allow us to keep them well cared for. Here at the Pawlor, we take all measures to help your pet adjust and enjoy their session. All products used & sold here have been personally "tested" and approved by me & and my pets (and we are some TOUGH customers!). They were chosen for their efficacy & superior-quality ingredients. When available, I prefer to use organic and/or all-natural products. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding our products.

It is my ultimate goal to help you and your pet attain grooming nirvana. Given time, patience and positive reinforcement your pet can and will learn to enjoy grooming. When the experience is pleasant and the groomer is patient, compassionate and consistent, your pet's trust and confidence will soon be earned.

Each visit will end on a positive note to help associate the notion that "good things happen here at The Pawlor!". If you would like to bring a special toy, their favorite blanket or a few special treats to make their experience more enjoyable & familiar, I encourage you to do so. Please feel free to openly discuss your pet's individual needs with me (whether it be physical or emotional). Together, we will create a regiment that will work for both you and your pet. I want them to enjoy this very important part of their lives!

• High-Quality Grooming Products
• A full tour of the facility
• Professional & Courteous Service
• Expert Results
• Compassionate Treatment

When you arrive lease feel free to look around & ask questions. I would not leave my pet anywhere sight unseen and I would never ask you to do so. We can sit in the boutique or lounge with your pet and discuss their individual grooming needs. At this time, please inform us of any health problems, conditions or special needs your pet may have. This will enable us to tailor the grooming session for your pet’s optimal comfort. Please bring in copies of your pet’s up-to-date vaccination records (See POLICIES section for more information) & your veterinarian's phone number to keep on file in case of an emergency. Be sure to bring this information with you the day of your first appointment. All information will be noted and filed for future reference. Each grooming session is well-documented so we can duplicate or change the services on your next visit.

Before the grooming session begins I will sit with your pet and allow them to get to know me. A first time grooming can potentially be stressful for a pet unaccustomed to regular grooming; I take every possible step to help put them at ease (for puppies or pets who are not used to being groomed, you may want to look into our Puppy Program). It may take several visits for them to become used to grooming and it is my goal to help them learn to enjoy the experience. During bathing, your pet is washed using a hydro-therapy massager with a high-quality, detergent-free shampoo specifically chosen for skin and coat type. They are also conditioned as the coat requires. Next, they are hand-dried which aids in removal of shedding hair and sets the coat to ensure a smooth finish. Upon completion of grooming, your pet will get a bow or bandana and a spritz of an all-natural fragrance spray.

MEET THE GROOMER

For as long as I can remember I have had a strong connection with animals. Until the age of around 3, I was raised with my mother’s first ‘child’, Jo. Jo was a Rough Coated Saint Bernard. After he passed-away, I developed severe allergies to both dogs and cats. This was an absolute nightmare as I adored dogs! It was now impossible to add another dog to our family because of my allergies. In recognition of my love for animals, my mother (who is also an avid animal-lover) directed my affections towards pets that wouldn’t leave me in respiratory distress. So, we had fish, several aquatic turtles, lizards and a wonderfully talkative parakeet named “Tootie”. As I grew into adulthood, my love for all animals grew, and thankfully, by the age of 21, my allergies had completely disappeared. I was ecstatic! This was a major turning point in my life.

Since then, I have proudly been “owned” by many dogs and cats. I have been very active in the rescue community as a foster parent and a shelter volunteer. By the age of 30, I knew that I needed to change my professional direction. After a 13 year career as a graphic designer, I decided to follow my heart and pursue a career working with animals.

There were many critical factors considered as I pondered my career move. I wanted a job where I could work with animals and people. I am incredibly intrigued by dogs & cats and their relationship with their family (their “pack”). Being a rescue volunteer and foster mom, I have had much personal experience working with troubled dogs. I extensively study domestic animal behavior & modification using positive reinforcement/desensitization training techniques. As a dog and cat mom myself, I am extremely interested in their nutritional & health care needs. Pet grooming incorporates all of these interests. I get to work with people and help them care for their pets. I also get to help troubled dogs overcome some of the phobias associated with grooming. My ultimate goal is to help bring a new higher standard to the world of grooming.
